Singer and songwriter Demi Lovato will share her story about living with bipolar disorder during the National Council for Behavioral Health's annual Hill Day. Hundreds of advocates will gather for a full day of public policy briefings and trainings today, followed by congressional visits Tuesday.
"Tomorrow I will join other mental health advocates in our nation's capital as we speak up to raise the volume and urgency for real change in how we treat mental health in this country," Lovato said in a news release.
"Participating in Hill Day is just one of many ways to get involved. I am hopeful that others are empowered to speak up and spark change in their communities. Together, we can break the silence around mental health in America."
The former child actress has released several successful pop albums.
The National Council has a membership of about 2,500 organizations providing mental health and addiction treatment nationwide. The Hill Day is held in partnership with several other groups, including the Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association, the Association for Behavioral Health and Wellness and NAADAC—The Association for Addiction Professionals.
Also on Capitol Hill this week: The American Wind Energy Association will present Rep. Chris Gibson (R-N.Y.) with the USA Wind Champion Award. Gibson will give a keynote address Tuesday at AWEA's Wind Power on Capitol Hill. Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.) is the event's keynote speaker on Wednesday.
The North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition holds its Capitol Hill Lobby Day Wednesday. NTCA—The Rural Broadband Association will host another SPIRIT Fly-In Thursday.
